John L. Coulson - Born:

Founded by John L. Coulson
in 1989, I.S.P.I. has journaled over 600 of his original inventions and business
concepts. 17 of these have been developed to proto type in association with the
Engineering & Physics department at the University of British Columbia,
Vancouver B.C. Canada. John’s 2001 Headphone Invention project won the
prestigious
Nodwell Award given annually by
U.B.C. to that invention deemed by peers as the year’s most likely project to
become a commercial success. Prof. Harold Davis

John has spent most of
the past 20 years in the Food and Beverage Industry.
He began his restaurant career in Australia in 1982.
There he catered to tourists at the Great Keppel Island resort.
Upon returning to Canada
in 1983, he carried on his career at Penny lane Bistro and Cafe` in Kelowna
B.C.. He went from dishwasher to Second Chef in the first three months and took
total control of kitchen operations three months after that.
He stayed there for over
two years before moving on to a career in the Night Club Business. He began
working as a Janitor/doorman at New York New York Disco Systems in Victoria.
Six weeks after arrival, he took on the responsibilities of the Kitchen
Manager. There he effectively
introduced a new menu and implemented measures designed to help to reduce Food
costs and employee waste. After
reaching the assistant managers position at New York New York, he ended his
five-year stay in Victoria as the Community Relations Manager for CoCo's Nite
Club & Cafe and Merlin’s Nite Club.
Due to personal injury, a
brief stint as a Commercial Deep Sea Diver was short lived.
He did however graduate
from the Underwater Technology School (U.T.S.) with honours at the top of his
class in 1987. At this time he
returned to Vancouver to further his career in the Food Industry.
He took the position of the Assistant Kitchen Manager at Penny lane
Bistro on Robson Street. An average
Friday would see the Kitchen produce upwards of 350 meals.
John brings several years
of practical business expertise to this group.
He has spent several years in the hospitality industry in British
Columbia in several capacities. Some of these include being a Night Club
Manager/Owner, Promotions Director, Purchaser, DJ, Master of Ceremonies, Events
Coordinator, Kitchen Manager and Chef.
Together with his family and partners they have owned and managed many of
the most successful Night Clubs, Hotels and Restaurants in the city of Victoria
for the past 21 years. In the
recent past John has developed several state of the art product concepts
utilizing a wealth of free talent at the Universities of BC and Victoria. This
novel method of product development has led him to several new manufacturing and
development techniques for several of his own creations.
John has a knack for
inventing and has successfully launched creative new food and promotional ideas
in each establishment that he has worked.
His Sunday Nite Beach Barbecues at CoCo's Niteclub were very popular.
He believes his experience in these related fields will be the key to
success of this new venture.
Through extensive hours
of research he has discovered and compiled an endless sea of grant opportunities
and business information that has contributed to the success of his ventures and
those that he has advised. To
sustain development in his ventures, John has learned and become prosperous at
several facets of the computer industry including, consulting, repairs,
teaching, web site development, desktop publishing, software installation and
maintenance.
Other past work
experiences includes bricklaying, (started at 13, foreman at 17, responsible for
a crew of 30, building condos at BIG White ski resort Kelowna), floor layer
(owned my own business, seven years), landscaper, painter, roady/runner (Bryan
Adams, Beach Boys), movie/video extra, and videographer and furniture mover.
